This is a Mexican rug/blanket which displays the Aztec calendar. The piece dates to around ca. 1962. The rug depicts the Aztec sun stone, a 365-day calendar. Tonatiuh's, the Aztec sun god, face appears in the center of the circle. 
 
The textile is full of vibrant colors, patterns, and symbols. The rug/blanket was woven in two separate panels and stitched together. The top and bottom of the piece have registers of red, white, and green which resemble the Mexican flag. The textile is quite vibrant due to its choice of colors including blue, yellow, orange, and magenta.
 
On the sides of the rug, the old Aztec legend of the eagle is depicted. The god, Huitzilopochtli said the tribe would come across an eagle, perched on a cactus, devouring a snake and in that spot the Aztec city should be built. 
 
The piece hold a lot of Mexican heritage and culture through its symbolism.
