This Italian Grand Tour Micro Mosaic Mid-19th Century Brooch is a stunning piece of antique jewelry. The brooch features intricately cut tesserae arranged in the Chi-Rho symbol. Next to the Chi-Rho are the symbols, Alpha and Omega which refers to the beginning, continuation, and end of all things. Surrounding the mosaic is a gold bezel detailed with twisted decoration. The back of the brooch is inscribed with 37P. This piece was most likely made for upper-class young men to take back home from their grand tour in Europe. This was common during the 19th century and Italy was a key destination. The brooch would have been small and portable and when wore a way to show off your travels.
