This lovely doll was made by the Jumeau Company in the 1880's. She bears the mark "19" on the crown of her head which denotes her size as being" tall. She has a bisque socket head with delicate features, painted eyebrows and eyelashes, luminous brown glass eyes that open and shut, a rosebud closed mouth and a perky little nose. Her cheeks have a rosy glow. Her blonde wig is in very good condition. She has a jointed wood and composition body with unjointed wrists indicating she is of the earlier Bebe types. She wears a lovely antique dress with a purple satin long sleeved with lace trim top and a double layered ruffled lace skirt and a low waisted blue ribbon belt. She wear antique petticoats and socks with tiny leather buttoned boots underneath.The Jumeau company operated from 1842 to 1899 and was located in Montreuil and Paris. The Juneau Company gained fame by making dolls with beautiful faces and exquisite clothing. These dolls were sought after and considered status symbols that marked the latest in French fashion of the 19th century. Jumeau dolls won the gold medal at the Great World's Fair Paris Exposition in 1878 and other high awards at the Sydney Australia International Exposition in 1879 and the Melbourne Australia International Exhibition in 1880. The Bebe Jumeau doll was introduced in the 1870's and was a huge success. Little girls loved them because they were more realistic and childlike, had glass eyes and wore stylish clothing.Dimensions: 19" tall
