This appears to be a 17th-18th Century leather covered box. Possibly a traveling box or document box. The box is made out of wood with a cover of brown hand tooled decorated leather in trailing flower and leaf designs. The box is constructed with hand forged iron hardware and attached with rivets. Clover shaped brackets are along the side and bottom edges. A top mounted hasp closure is attached in the front and hinges are attached to the back. A forged chest handle is attached on the top. The inside is lined with flowered Indian Chintz fabric. The box has surface losses, dirt and staining. The hasp is broken.
